Three Things Datebook for the Week of 11/1/2021
Experimenting with a quick Monday email highlighting three things to look for this week.
Here’s a quick email highlighting three items happening this week that might be of interest to public media leaders.
THING ONE: The Lenfest News Philanthropy Summit
The Lenfest Institute for Journalism hosts the inaugural Lenfest News Philanthropy Summit Wednesday through Friday (Nov. 3-5) this week. This virtual summit is FREE, and you can register through this link.
Anyone interested can attend the summit that will feature panels, workshops, and networking events covering various topics that impact news organizations and their revenue strategies.
A couple of highlights from the agenda include:
A “Fireside Chat” with Stewart W. Bainum Jr. on Wednesday at 2:30 pm (ET). Bainum is providing the start-up funding for the Baltimore Banner, a new nonprofit news organization in the Charm City. He’ll share his background in philanthropy, how he decided to support journalism, and more insights into plans for his work in Baltimore.
On Thursday at 2:30 pm (ET), a panel will look at three different examples of journalism-as-a-service. They will discuss the changing ways news outlets distribute content and engage with their audiences.
A session detailing the findings from Report for America’s Local News Fund Report will discuss how stakeholder groups (funders, donors, and newsrooms) can initiate funds in their communities and share RFA’s next steps to promote community-funded journalism. This takes place on Friday at 12:30 pm (ET).
THING TWO: Optimizing How Radio Is Displayed in Connected Cars
On Thursday at 2 pm (ET), some exclusive new research from Jacobs Media will be shared featuring simulated driving testing to determine best practices for how radio can optimize its appearance in connected cars. Radio listeners will share their personal dashboard experiences to help guide radio on the best presentation of content in the car.
This is a free session, and you can join via Zoom with this link.
THING THREE: October’s Nielsen Audio Monthlies for PPM Markets
The monthly release from Nielsen Audio for October 2021 will be released beginning Monday. In September, many public radio stations in PPM markets saw a slight uptick, and hopefully, the momentum continues into the fall quarter. One of the big things to watch will be tracking overall radio consumption as we move beyond 18 months of the pandemic.
Each month, the folks at the Radio Research Consortium, specifically Scott Williams, provide a summary of key events by week to help give some context for programmers as they do the numbers.
That’s it for this quick post. If you find this helpful, leave a comment and let me know. Thanks.
Super helpful info on the Lenfest summit, thanks, Tim!
